STITCH WORKFLOW
A counted cross-stitch chart needs to be readable on fabric, not just look like a pixelated photo. PatternBlend keeps chart width, fabric count, symbols, section guides and full-cross totals visible so you can judge the project before stitching. The thread colors are independent PatternBlend references rather than commercial floss matches, which keeps the tool honest about what it can and cannot estimate.
Start around 40–50 stitches wide for a compact motif, then increase the width when faces, lettering, or fine edges need more detail. A wider chart preserves more of the source image but increases both the stitch total and the number of color changes you may need to manage.
Select 14-, 16-, or 18-count Aida to convert the generated stitch dimensions into a stitched-area estimate. Fabric count changes the physical size of the same chart; it does not change the number of full crosses in the grid. Add your preferred border and framing allowance outside that stitched area.
Use the symbol overlay when neighboring colors are hard to distinguish on screen. Ten-stitch section guides break a large chart into smaller counting blocks, while the optional generated boundary outline can help separate color regions. That outline is a planning aid, not hand-drawn artistic backstitch.
PatternBlend counts every full cross in the generated grid exactly and lists totals by its own thread code. It does not estimate skeins because real floss usage depends on fabric count, strand count, stitch type, tension, carries and waste. It also does not claim DMC, Anchor or other manufacturer equivalence.

PatternBlend uses its own thread-style reference palette. It does not claim one-to-one equivalence with DMC, Anchor, or another manufacturer, so makers should compare screen colors with physical thread before purchasing large quantities.
Counts are exact for full crosses in the generated grid. Fabric count, number of strands, fractional stitches, backstitch, and waste allowance affect real floss usage and are not estimated by the current route.
